IKEA U.S. has announced plans to open its first store in Alabama. IKEA Huntsville is scheduled to open in early 2026 and will be located at the University Place Shopping Center at 6125 University Place Dr., just off Research Park Boulevard and I-565. The site is adjacent to MidCity and near the Bridge Street Town Centre.
“We are thrilled to open our first store in Alabama to bring the dream of a better home within reach for more people across the country,” said Javier Quiñones, CEO & Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA U.S. “The opening of IKEA Huntsville highlights our commitment to bring IKEA closer to the many people and make it easier and more affordable to access our home furnishing products and solutions.”
The 46,000-square-foot IKEA Huntsville will showcase a range of fully furnished room settings designed to reflect everyday living in the Huntsville area. The store will feature 5,000 products on display, with over 2,000 items—including home accessories and more than 75 small furniture pieces—available for immediate purchase. Larger items can be ordered online for in-store pickup or delivery.
A dedicated planning area will offer customers personalized design consultations for kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, and other spaces. The store will also include the IKEA Swedish food experience, with a selection of popular hot and cold dishes available in-store or to-go.
The location will incorporate an As-is Department, providing gently used and discontinued products at reduced prices. This initiative supports IKEA’s broader sustainability efforts by offering customers more options to furnish their homes affordably and responsibly.
“I’m excited to bring the IKEA experience and stylish, functional, and affordable home furnishings to Alabama!” said John Achillea, Market Area Manager, IKEA U.S. “We are meeting the many people where they are, and I’m thrilled that we are continuing to grow our presence in the South.”
The new Huntsville store is part of IKEA’s broader strategy to expand customer meeting points in the U.S. and improve its online and in-store services. Recent investments have included updates to the IKEA Family and IKEA for Business programs, more competitive delivery pricing, and expanded service offerings such as Click & Collect and TaskRabbit assembly.
